About the Event
OK, everyone in Shanghai has been to the Bund, and some even spend a lot of time there at the world-class hotels and restaurants along its one-kilometer length. But only few actually know the stories behind the impressive facades. Join us as we stroll with Shanghai historian Patrick Cranley to learn all about the who, what, where, and why of the magnificent buildings on the Bund, so that the next time you have guests in town, you will be able to provide them with answers to their inevitable questions. Cranley’s chapter on the history of the Bund in “Still More Shanghai Walks” is a classic, but sadly out of print – better to get the info straight from the source! Not just the Peace Hotel, the former British Consulate and the former Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, but Jardine Matheson, the Bank of Taiwan, and the Gutzlaff Signal Tower, too.
